Nakiya Goings Mrs. Lehmann English 2-2A 4 October 2019 Roaring Fun It was a Friday in 2016. I was in 5th grade. My mom and my aunt had made plans to go down to this place called Roaring Springs. We had never been, but we looked at pictures online about it. We just knew it would be a fun experience for everyone. “Don’t forget, Kim should be here to get you around 1:00, so we could leave and be there early instead of later,” mom said. “Ok,” I said, grasping the door handle. “Ok. Love you. Have a good day at school,” she said with a grin. “I love you, too,” I said, then waved slowly as I closed the door and began to make my way towards the school doors. To this day, I still feel a rush of air hit my face as soon as I open the doors to walk in. I began making my way down the hall to my locker, empty as ever with only a few books and papers. I mean, it’s just a locker for your books and papers, really. No need to make it all fancy. I then proceeded to the cafeteria to have some breakfast since I was in a bit of a hurry that morning. I ate till the bell rang. I finished that last cold drink of milk, then went to put my tray away. I began to walk back to class. There were only a few minutes left. The tardy bell rang.I felt something slick on the floor. My whole body then flipped back. The hard-tiled floor, cold to the touch was hitting my back. My face began to feel hot, and my stomach began to turn. Looking up, I could now see everyone staring at me. “You alright!?” The Janitor asked with a hand over her chest. “I’m- I'm fine,” I stuttered as I helped myself up. I began to walk, noticing faces all around me. Some even looked as if they were trying not to laugh. I began to head back to class as soon as I could. Seconds before the bell, I entered Mrs. Hall’s classroom. Just in time, I landed on the hard-wooden seat just as the bell rang. Most of the time,I just relaxed instead of paying attention in class, but I knew that was a bad idea. Meanwhile, I had just finished my 4th period class. As I showed up, so did others. The door was locked, and no one knew what to do besides wait until someone opened the door. The squeaking door began to crack open, a teacher’s head following the edge of the door. “Wait here for a minute,” a lady said. She closed the door as we did what we were told. A few minutes later, Mrs. Hall began to open the door. Decorations were put up for a Valentine’s Day party. We gazed at everything and we just knew we were going to have the most fun we’ve had in a long time. At least I knew I was. We played games and had snacks the whole hour. Surprisingly, my back began to feel a lot better. About 30 mins before class ended, my name was called on the intercom. “Nakiya Goings to the office, please. She will be leaving.” I proceeded to grab my belongings as I heard my name. I walked up to the office to see my aunt standing by the font doors, waiting on me. We headed out to what looked like a rented car, a black suburban to be exact. I threw my backpack in the backseat and decided to get up front with my aunt. “How was your day sweetie?” She asked. “Great!” I said, feeling hesitant to tell her about falling in front of everyone. Stopping by the house, she hurried me to get my stuff. I obeyed her and ran towards my bedroom to get the belongings I needed. I finished in a jiffy. I then ran back to the car, hopping back up front. Switching the gears from Park to Drive, she began driving away the house. She then turned up the music,as always, late 90’s R&B. 20 minutes later, we arrive at her house in Twin. She got out right away and went straight to packing. My mom soon arrived a few hours later. We all put our luggagein the trunk of the car. There were 7 of us going, including my aunt, my mom, my sister, my four cousins, me, and of course, the dog. There was just enough room for everyone in the car. Temperatures began to rise, and my aunt hurried to turn on the air-conditioner. Driving towards the highway, it soon began to rain, but the temperature never dropped. We drove for a good 2 hrs. We arrived to the hotel later that afternoon. We had dinner and soon everyone settled down after a long day. We made plans to head towards Roaring Springs the next day. We woke up around the normal time hotels might have breakfast, about 8-10a.m. We got ready around 10:30a.m. and left around 11:00 a.m. It took almost 20minutes to get there, but it was worth it. We got in line, and thankfully, we got there before anybody else. We entered and began to make our way towards the benches closest to the lazy river. As we got closer to our bench, I could almost taste the saltiness of the mist in the air coming from the pools. I just knew it would be a blast being here. Coming back to the hotel after a long day at roaring springs, was very hard. Not only saying goodbye but just the sunburns all over my body. But with sunburns left a fun weekend of laughter and fun. The rides were extremely tantalizing! The feeling of the warm but sometimes cold water splashing into your face. Amazing. This weekend made falling in the hall not such a big deal after all. I just hope soon, there is just that same exact weekend. Where My family and I go back and make some more memories at roaring springs like we did back in 2016.
Compare and Contrast Reflection
Please answer all questions in complete, grammatically correct sentences.
1. Explain the process you went through to write this paper. Please be specific. I brainstormed, then began an outline. After writing the main parts what happen in my story I began to type the story. Writing the outline, I felt brain-dead for the most part, but after a few minutes I finally began to think of something.
2. What qualifies this paper as a compare and contrast essay? What are the requirements for this genre and how did you meet them? We had to require Imagery, Dialogue, and Show-Don't-Tell. I would express the feeling of embarrassment in my paper when I fell on the hard tiled floor of the cafeteria.
3. Tell me about one challenge you faced writing this paper and how you overcame it.
"My whole body then flipped back. The hard-tiled floor, cold to the touch was hitting my back. My face began to feel hot, and my stomach began to turn. Looking up,I could now see everyone staring at me." Going to Roaring Springs just brought the best out of me. Afterwards, I began to feel a lot better. Just the excitement I had the whole time. Made me notice that the pain was never there from the beginning.
